What type of ballast do I need?

All parasols are delivered with a cross base, except for two models: the Ø2.75m centre-pole parasol and the 3x2m centre-pole parasol. Therefore, you will need to purchase a cross base if you wish to weight your parasol with slabs. Weighting is not included with our parasols, but it is essential for their stability. We offer several solutions to suit your needs:

Fillable weighted slabs: Our slabs (50x50cm) are designed to be filled with water or sand. Note that sand offers more weight per equivalent volume compared to water. For example, for a centre-pole parasol, we recommend a total weight of 80kg (4 slabs of 20kg minimum). For a cantilever parasol, plan for 100kg of weight (4 slabs of 25kg minimum) or 120kg for a 3x4m model using sand. Note that wet sand cannot be removed from the slabs. Make sure the weighting occupies an area of 1m² on the ground.

Wheeled bases: If you need a mobile solution, our wheeled bases for centre-pole and cantilever parasols are ideal. Weighted with water and/or sand, they provide optimal stability while allowing you to easily move your parasol.

For safe and long-lasting use, always follow our weighting recommendations, depending on the model and the layout of your space. Our recommendations are indicated on the technical sheets for our parasols. Feel free to contact us for personalised advice.

What should I use to weight the base of my parasol?

We have two options for weighting your parasol base: water and/or sand. Note that sand is more compact and heavier by volume than water, so for maximum weight, it's best to use sand. You can also mix sand and water to weigh your base. However, please note that wet sand cannot be removed from the slabs once it's filled.

Is it possible to anchor my parasol to the ground without using weighting?

Yes, you can use the cross base that comes with our cantilever parasols and screw it directly into the ground. While we do not provide screws for this purpose, the cross base has holes pre-drilled for you to insert screws.

What are the differences between the various wheeled bases?

We offer three wheeled base models on our website: Kona, Grécale, and Ponant.

  • Kona: Features 4 rotating wheels (360°) that are retractable and can be hidden under the casing. The Kona base can be weighted with both water and sand.

  • Grécale: More compact and takes up slightly less space on the ground. The Grécale base can only be weighted with sand and is made of metal.

  • Ponant: Similar to the Kona in design and stability, the Ponant base requires each wheel to be deployed individually using a crank. It can be weighted with both sand and water, with an easier filling process compared to the Kona. The Ponant base is made of plastic.
